Animal milks and particularly the cow’s milk have gained an unavoidable position in the food habits of all the modern societies in the world. Fabolous advertisements in the printed and electronic media have the people to believe that consuming those milk based supplementary drinks are necessary for the development of healthy bones and teeth of the children. some manufacturers have gone to the extreme level of promoting their products to pregnant mothers for the proper development to the bones and the brains of the foetuses growing inside their womb, but not the case.

The white revolution also known as ” Operation Flood ” was launched in 1970 to make India self-sufficient in milk production and Dr. Varghese Kurien was behind this project. Goat milk contain the same percentage of lactose, fat and protein as in the cow’s milk. The goat milk is grossly deficient in the vitamin folic acid. The buffalo milk contain more of the protein casein than in the cow milk and so not easily digested, toned milk is the mixture of buffalo and cow milk.

The milk protein casein after reaching the stomach gets precipitated by the hydrochloric acid in the stomach and acted on by an enzyme complex called rennet. The enzyme complex namely rennet has no other function except in enabling the digestion of casein in milk. The milk tastes sweet because of the presence of the sugar lactose in it. The cow milk has 4.9% of lactose whereas human milk has 6.8% of it, therefore infants like mother milk in preference of the cow milk. The enzyme lactase which is necessary to digest milk sugar lactose is not secreted in 90% of the human population. But the enzyme lactase may be secreted in only 10% of the world population.
The minerals in milk mainly include calcium, phosphorous and iron, the cow milk contain 0.7% minerals whereas human milk contain 0.1% minerals therefore rapid growth occurs of the calves than infant. Undisputed is true that cow milk is not necessary for the development of human. Two substances are mainly essential for the utilisation of calcium in the body. Vitamin D and magnesium is important for the deposition of calcium in the bones.
The consumption of other animal’s milk can lead Anaemia, any Cancer, Heart Attack, Cataract, Autism, juvenile obesity, bed wetting, Allergy, Kidney stone, Diabetes, Irritable bowel syndrom etc.
